Tennis Rant...

I can't believe I am about to say this but.... is it just me or is tennis boring these days? Let's face it, there are only three players worth mentioning. Sure occasionally you get the odd brilliant performance from one of the lower ranking players (think Gasquet at Wimbledon, Canas in Indian Wells or Miami, Gonzalez in Oz) but those moments are too few and far between. The rankings from #4 downward are basically redundant. The drop in quality from #3 to #4 is pathetic. I sit here now shaking my head as I watch the events that are transpiring in Madrid. Aside from the top three, every single one of the top 16 seeded players were out of the tournament  before the third round, with the exception of Gonzalez and Canas (and as I type this Canas is down 5-0 in the first set to Federer). Really, why bother. It's going to come down to Federer, Nadal or Djokovic. It always does. And, if by some fluke, someone else manages to make it in to the final, he'll likely be facing, and ultimately lose to, Federer, Nadal or Djokovic. Even if a miracle occurred, and one of the lower ranking players ever won a tournament, no one would believe for one second that the individual would ever be able to repeat that success again or, for that matter, on a regular basis. I do love tennis. I just wish sometimes that there were more high calibre players to make things a little interesting.

That said, I'm trying to avoid the Murray/Nadal match today...*is scared*...but I do so look forward to hearing/seeing Brad Gilbert gush over Rafa. I wouldn't be surprised if Brad switched allegiance mid-match.

BTW, where is Andy Roddick? He is MIA in Madrid.

Possible QF tomorrow: Feli vs Fed *snicker*  I'm still waiting to collect on the bet....Vamos Feli!!
