Twilight Zone

Yes I do have a life...well, sometimes...

Urggh, seriously....the icon says it all.

It has been almost two weeks since I've updated. YES, sadly I have been THAT busy at work. I go home and I am too exhausted to do just about anything. I'd like to think it is slowing down a bit now but you never know with this place. So much has happened but it has gone by so quickly I can't absorb any of it. It really has been a whirlwind. The month of September is basically a write off for me - I wish it was October already. I'll try to, ahem, summarize *snickers* some of the more significant facets of the month to date...
When last I posted I was still revelling in the Ben Barnes afterglow. A few days later I was off to TIFF again, this time to see Stone of Destiny. The movie was charming. Although I could easily have seen James McAvoy as the perfect lead, Scottish accent and all, having Charlie Cox cast as Ian Hamilton made that character come accross as a lot more innocent than the real Ian Hamilton likely was. Charlie Cox is adorably cute - but a lot more reserved than Ben (or at least that is the impression I got from the minute I was actually aware of his presence in the audience). I really would love to read the novel that this movie is based on and, for travel purposes, I must find out if the Stone of Destiny is still in Scotland or if it has been returned to Westminster Abbey yet. It seems wrong to go visit it in England. I have the same aversion to seeing the Elgin Parthenon Marbles there. They belong back in Greece (like that is ever going to happen...*is doubtful*)

Other than TIFF, I haven't been to the cinema since seeing Mamma Mia. I did rent The Lost Boys II: The Tribe which was an excruciating bad sequel to the original Lost Boys. Corey Feldman's return as vampire hunter extraordinaire was the one and only noteworthy highlight. My other rental was Ballet Shoes, starring Emma Watson, and based on the children's novel of the same name. Although the movie was entertaining, I daresay the book (which I hope to read in the not-too-distant future) was better and hopefully will help to fill in the missing gaps left by the movie's condensed plotline. Vicky, Christina, Barcelona has just started playing at my local cinema so if I manage to find some time this weekend doubtful I may check it out. Meh.

The new tv season is among us. Gossip Girl has been adequate although not enough Rufus IMO. The new 90210 is crap. True Blood sucks...no pun intended. I've only seen one episode of America's Next Top Model  so it is too early for me to care about anyone. BBCK has completed their full cycle of the Robin Hood series already although they seemed to have skipped over a few episodes much to my dismay. Oh well, it is on the list of tv series to purchase on dvd. Greek is still my new favourite show (even if it really isn't 'new', just being broadcast for the first time in Canada) although I'd have to say Fringe is arguably a close runner-up. Heroes returns tonight and I admit I have high hopes for this season since it seems to be more Sylar-centric. Considering I watch so much television you'd think I would have cared about yesterday's Emmy Awards. mmm, not really. Nobody I liked was nominated. Still, I suppose I should peruse the entertainment news to find out who did win. quidquid

Although I am flat broke right now I need to remain positive as there are only 10 more days left till I no longer have to skimp and save and worry about money. Further in less than 6 months from now I will be completely debt free. I can't wait! I already have a wishlist of purchases prepared for that debt-free moment.

I submitted my resume to apply for a new job - with a travel company. I haven't received a call-back but I suppose there is no harm in trying. They do offer travel incentives as part of their bonuses and indicate they provide longer than normal vacation breaks. It all sounds a little too good. My guess is they don't pay well, or rather, well enough. I have also put the fear of God in my fellow employees by taking home all my personal belongings from my office. I'm pretty sure I've scared them into believing I am looking for another job...in the middle of peak transfer season. It doesn't help that one of the other staff members has just quit so we will already be short-staffed during this, our busiest part of the year. *groans*

It should be noted that on the evening of Tuesday, September 16th I saw an unidentified stationary flying object. Actually, I saw three - but one was a lot bigger than the other two. The big one looked like a vertical, disc-shaped porthole to another dimension. The smaller two looked more like white horizontal streaks across the sky. I spent a good deal of time the next morning researching and discovered they were likely meteors - the September Perseids to be exact. Shooting stars...supposedly a sign of good luck. I have to admit though, it was a little freaky when it happened.

Oh, and the birthdays...it seems like everyone in history that I remotely care about was born over the past two weeks:
Sep 5 - Louis XIV (speaking of which, I was able to watch my fav movie, Man in the Iron Mask, in HD...*sigh* *gush*...'twas perfection)
Sep 7 - Elizabeth I
Sep 12 - Francis I
Sep 13 - the unconfirmed birthday of Cesare Borgia
Sep 21 - HG Wells (and the rat bastard Savonarola)
Sep 23 (tomorrow) Octavian...later Augustus Caesar
...and I would be remiss not to mention the birthday of the prettiest man in tennis...Feliciano Lopez...who turned 27on Sep 20th...

Speaking of which, the dork goes and loses his match on his birthday. How totally like Feli. *grimaces* I'm not even sure how Davis Cup went this weekend. I must visit VamosBrigade and check out the a/v from the Spain/USA tourney. I believe Spain won but I need to know the details. I haven't seen Rafa since last week when he attended the Real Madrid game. All I remember from that game was the cameras focusing on Rafa about four or five times during the match and him never shutting up for one second...his poor friends couldn't get in a word edgewise.

Real Madrid...well they seem to be doing rather well even though I didn't get to see the match yesterday as I was off visiting a friend. I did watch part of the rebroadcast to see the amazing Higuain assisted goal by De La Red. I'll pretend I didn't see Higuain's hair, though...err, what exactly was he attempting to do with it? That colour was just horrific. It makes me realize how much I miss Mr. Perfect Hair Fernando Gago ...and now four more weeks without him thanks to a torn thigh muscle. *wails* I'm actually going to be impressed if he does recover in just four weeks. Poor baby. I really don't want to see how or when the injury occurred - it sounds nasty enough as it is.

I freely admit I am off target with my Booklist reading. Since July I have only completed two books - Breaking Dawn and Standard of Honor. To be fair, both books run between 700-800 pages long and since the start of transfer season I have been way too tired to read before I go to sleep. I have just commenced reading The Last Gospel which seems promising. I'm certain with the impending October-December paperback release dates of some of my long-awaited-for novels I'll be getting back into the groove of things real soon.

No speak of the working out. I haven't gone to the gym since, well, I can't even remember. I don't foresee any trips until October. Once October rolls around, and once I have money, I really plan on getting my life back in order. I think the shooting stars kind of marked a turning point in my life. I know 2009 will be a year of major changes...for the positive. I just can't wait till it all begins.
  • Current Location: work
  • Current Mood: exhausted exhausted
  • Current Music: Keeps Gettin Better - Christina
I'm so glad to find out that Rafa did well. He is always so happy when he wins for Spain at Davis Cup. :)

So true...I never thought of that until now. He would have been really good in it.

The Lost Boys II: The Tribe

It was hilarious... I haven't laughed that much at a "horror" in a long time. Although Angus Sutherland was fairly decent in the head vampire role...

The new 90210 is crap. True Blood sucks...

Soooo true! I fell asleep during Heroes so that doesn't bode well for future episodes. And Fringe rocks!

I submitted my resume to apply for a new job - ...I have also put the fear of God in my fellow employees by taking home all my personal belongings from my office.

True there is no harm in trying...you never know...Let Phil think you're leaving that way he'll give grave consideration to changing Paul's job description to what you suggested.

he big one looked like a vertical, disc-shaped porthole to another dimension.

First thing I thought of was that maybe it was a Stargate and Ronan Dex was waiting just beyond it....ok a girl can dream about a 6'5" alien and former runner from Sateda can't she?

I would be remiss not to mention the birthday of the prettiest man in tennis...Feliciano Lopez..

Awww...he would love that you called him that!

ameras focusing on Rafa about four or five times during the match and him never shutting up for one second

Yup that'd be our Rafa!

t makes me realize how much I miss Mr. Perfect Hair Fernando Gago ...and now four more weeks without him thanks to a torn thigh muscle.

Awww no hair porn...and it's no fun not being able to mock the girly girl and his running. What exactly was he doing to injure a thigh muscle *raises eyebrow*

I know 2009 will be a year of major changes...for the positive. I just can't wait till it all begins.

Gods I hope so!

Yes, only difference is that James comes across as someone who WOULD do something like that whereas Charlie is just cute and innocent (or so he wants us to believe).

Angus Sutherland was fairly decent in the head vampire role...
No one can touch Stuart Townsend for hot, sexy vampire. Gary Oldman is probably my favourite though.

Oh I agree nobody can touch Stuart Townsend at all...he is the ultimate vampire...followed closely by Brad as Louis for the hair alone...what? You know it's all about the hair in that movie!
