RM, Dubai & the Oscars...

The February meetings are over. They started out horribly and became progressively better. Now I just have to procrastinate on the meeting minutes for the next couple of weeks. Hehe. Seriously, I'm already halfway through the Junior notes thanks to the new laptop. I plan on finishing all notes by this Wednesday which I am taking off. I want to stay home, relax and complete those notes at home while waiting for the UEFA games to air. GOL TV is rebroadcasting the RM romp over Betis at 1 PM. The Liverpool match follows at 4:30 and the Juve match is on at 8 PM.

What a match this weekend. Six goals in the first half of the game. RM easily could have scored more. I honestly believe these past few weeks we have been treated to watching the very best of Real Madrid. They have been a pleasure to watch. Cap that with the recent demise of Barca *snicker* and suddenly Real Madrid are once again a serious threat to regain the #1 spot in La Liga.

Let me ask you this tennis fans, is Dubai worth watching this year sans Federer and Nada? Just looking at the draw sheet with Djoker's name listed at the top was rather nauseating. I shall cheer, of course, for Gilles Simon. No Feli. Once again he is MIA. Maybe he put the kibosh on the tourney since Rafa was not going to be there. quidquid

Oscars, so good they really deserve their own post but I think a paragraph should at least suffice. First off, Hugh Jackman...please sign the man up as permanent host of everything for the next five years. OK, yes so it felt more like we were watching the Tonies rather than the Oscars but at least it was entertaining. The right people won. The awards barely went overtime. The show didn't drag as much as it usually does. They condensed the presentations of  the boring awards (aka non acting) so they went by a little quicker. I know that there are some nay-sayers out there who weren't too pleased about the musical number with Beyonce deeming it as unnecessary but I thought it provided a nice tribute, comparable to and far more exciting than the video montages celebrating action films, romance, etc. Seth Rogan & James Franco Pineapple Express sketch *LOL* Great acceptance speeches. It was a stroke of genius having the past awards winners presenting the nominee tributes - it really seemed to make the moment a little extra special for this year's nominees. Best dressed: Natalie Portman. Runner Up: Alicia Keyes...why? Because they wore fabulous dresses in bold colours that looked great on them rather than boring beige (or a derivative thereof) or black which seemed to dominate the Red Carpet this year. Worst dressed: Sophia Loren...it was just painful to look at.

I have not doubt they will be number #1 and Barca is going to sit there going wtf happened and I will revel in it!!!

I still think they should drop Dubai after the whole fiasco with Shahar Peer. Politics and Tennis should never mix! Put in another grass tourney somewhere or a clay tourney!

No Feli. Once again he is MIA. Maybe he put the kibosh on the tourney since Rafa was not going to be there. quidquid

Oh no you didn't just quidquid Feli?!?! I do miss him though.

I loved the Oscars this year...I actually watched them for a change! Have't done that since I was a teenager.
Oh no you didn't just quidquid Feli?!?
Hmmm, that made me think...this icon (see Hermione) would be so much more realistic if it said 'quidquid' instead of 'whatever'.

and Barca is going to sit there going wtf happened and I will revel in it!!!
I propose we get some champagne for the mock-fest.
I forgot to watch the Oscars! And I was wondering why nothing was on TV! I have only seen Vicky Cristina Barcelona of the nominees, though. I have ordered Slumdog Millionaire from Amazon.ca.

Was Hugh Jackman that good? I do love the man, so am glad to hear he did well!

The Real Madrid match was amazing, really. I can't help but think they will beat Liverpool in the Champions League although every expert seems to think the opposite!

I wouldn't mind watching the Dubai tournament just to see some players who are new to me, and get to know them a bit! Always useful.

I have only seen VCB as well and frankly I didn't think Penelope Cruz was that amazing in it. She was just okay. But she is a great actress nonetheless so I have no objection to her winning an Oscar. I am looking forward to seeing Slumdog Millionaire and some of the other movies but I think I'll wait till they come out on DVD.

Hugh Jackman was absolutely fantastic as the host. He was the primary reason why the Oscars were so good this year. You should look for some clips on Youtube of his performances as they probably have posted them by now.

Real Madrid will beat Liverpool. I figure if I say it enough it will come true. Besides, in all honesty, Liverpool hasn't been playing that well of late. I do believe that Real Madrid can take them, especially at home.
Agreed. VCB confused me a bit as to how to categorize it. It seemed almost like farce, as if I weren't meant to take it seriously. Yet you couldn't exactly call it a comedy...anyway, I have liked Penelope better in other things, but nonetheless, I am glad she won too.

Well, it seems that Rafa Benitez had something to prove. For me, Real Madrid performed better for most of the match until that defensive mistake. Except for the set pieces. Where Benitez would seem to have made the correct substitutions, I felt that Real Madrid was lacking a free kick specialist and perhaps Wesley Snejder or Rafa Van der Vaart should have come on for Robben, or instead of Guti, whom I didn't feel was match fit. But for me, the main thing behind it was the fact that Rafa Benitez has been treated poorly by Liverpool FC, has not yet signed a new contract, and rumours have it that he is headed to Madrid at the end of the season. I think he had something to prove. Anyway, that's all my opinion (although I did listen to some of the pundits on Setanta Sports and decided which one I was going to agree with.)
Aside from that set play, for the most part, RM dominated that game and truly deserved the win, or at the least, a tie. I was also quite surprised to see Guti come in. That midfield is so crowded right now with great talent it becomes very difficult to decide who to go with. I have also heard the Benitez rumours but I guess we'll just have to see how that plays through.
Great match from our boys :D Hope we win tonight against Liverpool.

I do watch some matches of Dubai Tennis. There's Gasquet, Simon, Bolleli, Nole, Safin (who lost yesterday) I can watch Nole but not Murray :P

I saw a lil of the Oscars, I was looking at the dresses :)
