Weather, Soccer & Avatar

Why am I still so busy at work? Isn't this supposed to be my off season?

The weekend was decent. It was frigid here in Toronto. OK, well 'frigid' for May. Since the buildings have switched over from heating to air conditioning I've been layering sweaters and wrapping myself in blankets. It doesn't help when it rains since we get no sunlight to help keep us warm. Please let this end soon....I want mild temperatures and sunshine before the end of the month.

Second last week of Serie A and La Liga and nothing is decided yet. One more week before J-Mo and Inter can celebrate another title. One more week of watching Juventus fail miserably.  I pray Barca loses and Real Madrid win but I'm not expecting anything in La Liga. What is really disappointing is that Palermo couldn't win at home this weekend. I want them to make the Champions League next year. Oh well, one week and it is all over. Then the Champions League final and hopefully the treble for Inter.

Watched Avatar for the first time this weekend. It was good but IMO not as good as the critics and the box office receipts made it out to be. the plot was so predictable I had to roll my eyes at times. The effects were typical not groundbreaking...mind you, I didn't watch it in 3D (nor do I have any desire to as I expect I'd walk away from that with a migraine). The fluorescent fantasy planet was no different than anything I can see on a HD Oasis undersea life documentary and the spirituality is not far off from most native/indegenous people's religious thought.  I think I'm tainted by books though. When I think of all the amazing fantasy lands I have travelled to in novels...e.g. The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Gulliver's Travels, The Odyssey,  The Mists of Avalon, not to mention  numerous science fiction novels as well. Give me a good author and couple it with my imagination and I'll be happy.  OK getting a bit off track there....I liked this movie well enough but it won't go down as one of my favourites.  And not that I'm being critical but blue aliens makes me think of The Smurfs for some reason. LOL. Great hair on the Na'vi though.

Tonight: Big Bang Theory...YAY
  • Current Location: my office
  • Current Music: Paint It Black - The Rolling Stones
As for Avatar I liked it but not gaga over it. The native spirituality is the part I like and if people watch it and realized that we are doing the same thing to Mother Earth as "Man' did to the Navi and Pandora and this makes them think twice about destroying nature and the Earth, makes them think about conservation and environmentalism and protecting our Mother then as far as I'm concerned more movies like this should be made. I keep wondering where people think we're going to go once we've destroyed this planet? Do we have some other one waiting that I/we don't know about? This line is the movie is poignant:

[Jake pleads for Eywa's help in attacking the "Sky People"] See the world we come from: there's no green there. They've killed their mother, and they're going to do the same thing here.
Party in June
Lady C, has the delightful mermaid told you about the small, girls-only party that Tiziana J and I are hosting at her place on June 4th? We sent the invites out through FaceBook, so we weren't able to send one directly to you that way. We're hoping you both can come - it should be fun! Not a very late party, though.
