2008 Golden Globe nominees...

It seems like the Hollywood Foreign Press wanted to ensure that the 2008 Golden Globe Awards would be one of the most star-studded awards ceremony ever. The nominations consisted of a good mix of individuals and aimed to satisfy all, although I truly believe some of those nominees are there not because of their abilities but purely because they will attract an audience. The movies that were nominated were the very same ones being bantered about for the past month or so - in other words, no big surprises = American Gangster, Atonement, Eastern Promises, Michael Clayton, No Country for Old Men...  It's really too early tell. The majority of the vote right now seems to be for There Will be Blood, but there have been so many good reviews of Eastern Promises and Atonement (the only two movies on the list that I have any desire whatsoever to actually watch).

Performance nominees In the motion picture category are as follows:
  • Actress/Drama (Cate Blanchett, Julie Christie, Jodie Foster, Angelina Jolie, Keira Knightley) my guess: Julie or Keira
  • Actor/Drama (George Clooney, Daniel Day-Lewis, James McAvoy, Viggo Mortensen, Denzel Washington) my guess: Viggo
  • pass on the  Musical/Comedy Actress category (as it is a snoozer) my guess: toss up between Amy, Marion and Ellen
  • Actor - Comedy/Musical (Johnny Depp, Ryan Gosling, Tom Hanks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, John C. Reilly) my guess: hmmm, maybe Philip or Ryan
  • Supporting Actress (Cate Blanchett, Julia Roberts, Saoirse Ronan, Amy Ryan, Tilda Swinton) - my guess: Saoirse or Tilda
  • Supporting Actor (Casey Affleck, Javier Bardem, Philip Seymour Hoffman, John Travolta, Tom Wilkinson) - my guess: Casey or Javier
(note to anyone reading this...whoever I have chosen, it would be wise for you to bet against them because I suck at this and please do not think that my selections in any way reflect whom I actually WANT to win...that is a completely different matter altogther)

In the television categories, of note, The Tudors was nominated as best drama series and Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Best Actor (although how/why they didn't nominate Maria Doyle Kennedy is beyond me as she did the best job in that series IMO).
