Doctor Who - Oswin types

GoT and Who A/V for your amusement...

Some a/v today for your amusement....The clips aren’t new. They've been floating around for some time now. I just thought it was nice to remind you again of what lies ahead this spring….

First for the Game of Thrones fans, here is a quick preview of the new characters we will be introduced to in Season 3 (which commences on March 31). I’m most excited to see the Reeds, Lady Olenna Tyrell, Beric Dondarrion (and his band of merry men) and Mance Rayder. By the looks of it, once again the casting is spot on…

Also re: GoT, this web article re: How Every Character on 'Game of Thrones' is Known Colloquially will provide a chuckle to the die-hards and a valuable source of reference to the newbies....sad but true no matter how politically incorrect, it really does help you remember the characters

Now for the Doctor Who fans...

Here is a preview trailer for the remainder of Series Seven (which commences TBA in April). It appears a significant amount of the series will be dedicated to discovering just whom Clara/Oswin really is….

FYI, Neil Gaiman penned the upcoming Cybermen episode. The Doctor’s Wife, also written by Gaiman, was one of my most favourite episodes of Doctor Who. I’m hoping he can duplicate the magic with this year’s venture.

I'm so on the fence with the character of Clara Oswald only because Moffat made her smarter than the Doctor and I have issues with that for the Doctor as a character not with Clara being smart in of itself. What is the point of the Doctor if his companion is smarter than him - he's supposed to be the genius and other others just fail or keep up but not surpass him.....so big problem imho. Unless they make the 'modern Clara' not as smart as her Victorian and Dalek counterparts....somehow I can't see that happening. I just hope whatever Clara's back story is that it's a really good one instead of a cop out...

But I like the Jenna Louise Coleman in both the roles she's played....competent actress. Guess we'll see what's to come for Doctor Who.
I think Moffat has quite simply dumbed the Doctor down since Matt took over. Amy certainly wasn't a genius but even she seemed more logical than the Doctor at times. And what repeatedly became annoying in particular during those last five episodes was when 11 would be acting like such a total nitwit and then two seconds later he'd have this two minute epiphany of brilliance and resolve the concerns of the entire episode. It's like Gandalf and his selective magic...the Doctor now has selective genius and only chooses to use it on a whim. Not sure where is Moffat going with the Doctor but at the very least I can say that Matt is doing a great job with what he is being given. Poor guy.

I like Jenna a lot...I think she is a great fit for the show. But I think we have yet to see what her character will really be like so I will reserve my judgement on Clara/Oswin...
Oh yes selective genius that's the perfect way to put it.....

Matt is brilliant at what he does but I hope this year Moffat at least gives him something besides bipolar genius I pray.

I think Moffat has dumbed down the Doctor for an American audience which is pathetic imho.....if the US audience can't keep up with the intelligence level of the show which btw is a statement to their education system because the show is geared towards kids in the UK then maybe the US need to google or use a dictionary more often or fix their education system (harsh reality and they know it) or not watch the show....just sayin'
The sad thing is I don't think the intelligence level of Doctor Who was ever really that highbrow. I'm not sure they really dumbed the show down for Americans...I think it was more that they created it, or rather, 'upped' it, for ADD Americans who always need action and noise and grandiose and stupid comedy along with some lame ass love themes to keep them interested rather than a good old fashioned well thought out, well written and methodical story with ongoing tension that reaches a gradual climax. They are too easily bored by something that they deem slow and without pizzazz...Think of that time we saw that episode from the original Hawaii Five 0 and how it seemed so sooooo slow compared to now. Back then it worked but not so much anymore. They needs something with a constant punch. Even in the rewatch of Season Five (the one we are watching now) with Matt, it seems much slower and more methodical (some episodes are practically tailor-written to suit David rather than Matt IMO...think of the last one with the silurians...) than what occurred in those recent five episodes of Season Seven (except that really stupid episode about the cubes) I think Americans have the capacity to keep up with the storyline and dialogue, the problem is I don't think they want to. And the other issue is that I don't think Doctor Who should have compromised and given it to an American audience...it is Doctor Who. People like Doctor Who for what it is...don't go and change it's style/format by taking away all the stuff that makes it great and unique. You risk alienating the existing/base audience for the sake of adding a new and somewhat fickle audience. They need to remember where they came from and what made them successful. Yes, I understand they need to evolve but just be sure to do it properly.
yes you have valid points there....esp. the Silurian episode

I suppose I got so used to David's episodes that made you think as opposed to being silly.....Some of Matt's episodes actually had it until ya the last five episodes...
